Dancing in your head

You can dance anywhere, even if only in your head -Anon.

This is one of the multitide of quotes collected by Tom Parsons http://www.dancer.com/tom-parsons/quotes.html  that will feature on the www.dancetours.co.nz site shortly.

Whether driving in the car or working at home, I find that the radio station Coast 105.4FM Auckland provides great music to dance to in my head.   http://www.thecoast.net.nz/ListenLive/  The timeless music they play is almost exclusively ballroom and Latin rather than salsa, but that's ok.  While I am driving, some of those waltzs just sweep my imaginary partner and me around the floor in a perfect partnership.  Ok it's all in the head while driving, but almost just as real.

If you flick through Tom Parson's list of quotes you will see a non PC quote which I have chosen to not use on www.dancetours.co.nz as I do not want to offend some of the lovely people I know who are Baptists and far from religioius extremists.
The gist of the 'unknown source' quote is 'Why do some religious extremists refuse to make love standing up?  'It might lead to dancing'.  Too late.  If you are dancing in your head you can do it anywhere..... and you can dance anywhere too.  Wink

Dance Tours is sponsoring the Drive Show on Coast for December.  The focus is Buenos Aires in April for passionate social dancers who would love to learn to tango while on a Dance Tours holiday.

Dancing my life away

When I listen to a three-minute dance song it's self-evident the song lasts three minutes.  However, if I dance to that same three minute song with a partner, the dance is over almost as soon as it begins.  Whether sweeping around the floor in a waltz or dancing with the quick footwork of a salsa, the time disappears in an instant.

We know that time is relative but does it apply to time spent dancing too?

Less than a month to Christmas and the year seems to have disappeared in an instant.  Have I been dancing too much?

Lovely and ludicrous dance quotes

Tom Parson's collection of dance quotes is a mix of the lovely and ludicrous, the humorous and humbling.  Eliza http://www.dancer.com/elizabio.html and John http://www.dancer.com/johnbio.html Minden of Gaynor Minden http://www.dancer.com/home.html  have graciously agreed to allow Dance Tours to use these quotes.  Here's another company that has turned their passion for dance into a business.

Expect to see some of these quotes on www.dancetours.co.nz soon but in the meantime here's a selection for blog readers.

Dancing's just a conversation between two people. Talk to me.

Football isn't a contact sport; it's a collision sport. Dancing is a contact sport.
             --Vince Lombardi

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.
--Angela Monet (also attributed to Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche)

To sing well and to dance is to be well educated.

Dance is like life, it exists as you're flitting through it, and when it's over, it's done.
             --Jerome Robbins

I was a ballerina. I had to quit after I injured a groin muscle. It wasn't mine.
             --Rita Rudner

To those of us with real understanding, dancing is the only pure art form.
--Charles Schulz [in Peanuts (Snoopy speaking)]

The waltz is a dance of quite too loose a character, and unmarried ladies should refrain from it...very young married ladies may be allowed to waltz if it is very seldom....
--From "The Gentleman and Lady's Book of Politeness," 2nd American edition, Boston: Allen and Ticknor and Carter, Hendee & Co., 1833.

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain.

2007 Programme now ready for you

A collective sigh of relief as the deceptively simple and comprehensive Dance Tours website www.dancetours.co.nz went live last week.  A lot of effort goes into getting it looking elegantly simple.  When you think you are 90% finished there is still another 90% to go.  The brief for the site was that it must be clear, simple and intuitive to use.

Unlike this blog, which is about my passion for dance, the website needed to provide evidence that Dance Tours will organise a memorable holiday for you wherever in the world you go.  Your comments are welcome, but I believe that the team at www.federationmedia.co.nz have achieved that fully. The responses over the last five days show that others agree.
